SUNDAY January 29
Famous Fables & Timeless Truths: “the illusion of death”
As humans, we have a fear of death and a desire to fight it – hold it off as long as possible. We know it’s a part of life, but we also long to refuse it. But the Bible tells us there is something after death, called a Resurrection. This Sunday, we’ll look at what happens after you die – to your body and your soul.

GOING DEEPER
Writing the Psalms of My Life
Monday, January 30, 2012, 7-9:30pm Room 114
Instructor: Jim Matthews MTS
With the “audacity of intimacy” the writer of the Psalms lays before us the vast array of soul-states a God-loyal person might experience. The Psalms are not the nice prayers of nice people. They are the raw, earthy, honest expressions of combustible human beings whispered and/or shouted to a listening God “whose love endures forever.” Most importantly to us, the Psalmist’s words were often on the lips of Jesus! They were spiritually formative for him.
With the Psalms in-hand as our template, this workshop will focus on a few of the forms of the Psalms and give opportunity for attendees to participate in Psalm-writing their own life experiences. No prior writing experience is necessary. There will be no evaluation of spelling, grammar or syntax. We will write. We will listen. And, in faith, we will wait to see how God chooses to show up. You can register online at www.crosswindschurch.org.
Empowered for Work-Worship for the Rest of the Week
Wednesday, February 1 and 8 (2 sessions), 6:30-8:00pm
Instructor: Dr. Charlie Self (Dr. History on KSFO!)
We live in a fragmented world, with so many competing demands on our energy and time. As Christians, we want to honor God is all we do, yet we are challenged to connect our everyday working lives with the lofty experiences and insights we enjoy in church.
All of life belongs to God, from changing diapers to changing information systems, from prayer meetings to local school board meetings. As we fulfill the Great Command to love and the Great Commission to share Christ with the world, we need to integrate our worlds of work and church, practical economics with spiritual stewardship. Romans 12:1-2 declares that every aspect of life is an offering to our loving Lord.
“Empowered for Work” is a two-week experience designed to inspire and instruct believers concerning “the other six days” of their week. All of God’s gifts are available for all spheres of activity. From the opening chapters of Genesis to the final visions of Revelation, we discover that we were created and redeemed to partner with the Triune God and bring good to the world through our labor.
This is much more than “marketplace ministry” or “business as mission” – this experience will help each believer and local church refashion their mission and vision and reignite the “first love” of discipleship.
To register, please contact Jodie Tey: 925-560-3830; jtey@crosswindschurch.org
